OUT OF BUSINESS

The On-line store is closed.

After a good 5 year run, Grow in Hydro is unfortunately shutting down its orchid supply services.  Thank you for your support, and my apologies to any and all who had orders caught up in the transition.  Outstanding orders have been canceled and refunded.  Credit card orders were never processed.

Kind regards,  Jesse Wright

HygroStone® ceramic growing medium
With heavy heart we have decided to move away from our core product PrimeAgra®, and are now offering a new lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) product made here in United States.  With the current economy and fuel prices on the rise, use of a premium LECA product is going to become cost prohibitive and we wanted to find a solution.

terrastone.jpgHygroStone® - ceramic growing medium is “Made in USA” and produced for use in horticulture as a soil amendment.

Tests have shown that straight out of the bag it is pH neutral, and has a consistent TDS (total dissolved solids) in the low 40ppm; after rinsing it once the TDS dropped into the 20ppm.

One of the main concerns I get from customers since PrimeAgra® was improved in 2007 was a high TDS right out of the bag, and damage to salt sensitive orchids.  The excess salt ions can be neutralized with some processing, but it was evident that some wanted a medium they could use immediately.

HygroStone® does have a few differences from other LECA products being used for semi-hydroponics.  It's color and shape are the most obvious, being lighter in color and non-uniform; or more “popcorn” shaped.  The HygroStone® particles are denser than the common spherical hydro medias that like to float out of the pots when you water.

The shape of HygroStone® is a fall back to what I liked about the first PrimeAgra®, where it packed the roots in nicely and held the orchids tight; while still keeping good space for gas exchange.

A side by side comparison shows that HygroStone® functions very closely to PrimeAgra®; and for what HygroStone® lacks in dry wicking ability, it makes up for in low TDS.

I feel that HygroStone® is going to be a great semi-hydroponic medium that I can offer at less than premium price.  Lets face it, its not PrimeAgra®, but if you’re looking for a lower cost alternative, this is looking promising.

I have recently re-potted a variety of orchids into HygroStone® and expect to have some “result” photos soon. In the meantime I have brought in 2700lbs. of HygroStone®, and want to offer it to you at a heavy discount. I would like everyone to try  HygroStone® and let me know what they think.

And so I am offering it at $12.00 a 20 liter box (35lbs.)Please e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you are interested in HygroStone®.  I still have tons of pots, Dyna-gro products and MSU fertilizer if you need anything else when you order.
